For a Portugal tourist visa appointment, Gloucester residents should use the VFS Portugal Visa Application Centre in London. Gloucestershire is on the published London residence list.
If you are struggling to find a suitable date, Portugal Visa Alerts’ London appointment finder offers optional paid matching notifications. Consider which London dates you could attend before choosing this support.
Gloucestershire points to London
VFS lists Gloucestershire among the counties whose residents may apply at its London Portugal centre. Applicants residing in counties assigned to the Portuguese Consulate in London submit at that centre. For a Gloucester address, the relevant application route is therefore London, not whichever centre happens to show an appointment.
The county lists also show why checking the precise residence route matters. Bristol appears on the London list, while Herefordshire and Worcestershire appear on the list for Manchester or Edinburgh. The lists are undated and use some historical county names, so contact VFS if your residence or county classification is unclear.
Check that a tourist application fits
This page concerns short-stay Schengen tourist applications. UK submission normally requires legal UK residence, a valid passport or travel document and valid UK residence permission. Gloucestershire residence establishes the listed London route, but not every other requirement for a visa.
Portugal must be the competent destination for the trip. If Portugal is the only Schengen country visited, it is responsible. For a multi-country visit, responsibility normally follows the main destination by length of stay or purpose. If no main destination can be determined, it is the country where you first intend to cross the Schengen external border.
A UK short-stay C visa does not generally qualify someone for the tourist route. VFS says applications from C-visa holders are limited to essential travel and are subject to the mission’s assessment. Check the category guidance if your immigration status or reason for travel is unusual.
Use alerts alongside official booking
If the calendar does not show a suitable date, check that you have selected Portugal and the correct category. You can use the official VFS appointment booking service yourself; paid notifications are optional.
The paid search begins after confirmed payment. When a matching appointment is detected, this route sends an email notification. SMS notifications are available where enabled, supported and possible, but mobile carrier delivery is not guaranteed.
You book personally through the official provider. An alert does not reserve or hold an appointment, and neither notification nor booking speed is guaranteed. Treat notifications as help with finding a match, while keeping your application and travel plans ready.
Keep documents ready while you search
Use the VFS Portugal Schengen checklist to organise your file, then check VFS for current instructions. The linked checklist is dated August 2025. VFS asks applicants to bring original documents for presentation and submit photocopies unless a requirement specifies an original.
Check your passport early: VFS guidance calls for at least two blank pages, issue within the previous ten years and validity for three months after departure from Schengen. UK residence evidence can include a digital share code, and residence permission should remain valid for at least one month beyond your return date.
Some documents can become out of date while you wait. The checklist requests three months of bank statements showing your name and address, with an end balance dated within the month before submission. Employed applicants need a signed, dated employer letter issued within the previous three months and three months of payslips.
Accommodation evidence should cover the whole stay and show your name, dates and the address. If another traveller is named on the booking, the checklist calls for a signed, dated joint-travel confirmation from that person and their identification. Insurance should cover the whole trip and all Schengen countries, including medical emergencies and repatriation.
Plan for the London appointment
The London centre is at 66 Wilson Street, EC2A 2BT. VFS lists submission hours as Monday to Friday, 08:30 to 13:00. Check the centre’s current information before travelling, and plan your journey from Gloucester around your booked time.
Every applicant, including children and infants, must attend in person with an online appointment. A minor must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Make sure everyone who needs to attend can travel to London and that the file will be ready for the date you choose.
When you have checked the route and identified dates you can attend, start your paid London Portugal appointment search.
