VFS lists its Portugal Visa Application Centre in London at 66 Wilson Street, EC2A 2BT. Hertfordshire appears on the London residence list. VFS says applicants residing in counties assigned to the Portuguese Consulate in London may submit only at this centre, which represents that consulate.
Manchester and Edinburgh serve a separate residence jurisdiction. A date at one of those centres does not make it an alternative for someone resident in Hertfordshire. The published lists use historical and overlapping county names, so ask VFS to confirm your route if your residence circumstances are unclear.
Monitor dates without repeated calendar checks
You can check the official VFS Portugal booking page directly. Paid alerts are optional search support for applicants who do not want to keep returning to the calendar. They do not change your application category or the centre determined by residence.
The Portugal Visa Alerts search begins after confirmed payment. When a matching appointment is detected, this route sends an email notification. SMS is available where enabled, supported and possible, although mobile carrier delivery is not guaranteed.
You make the booking yourself through the official provider. An alert does not reserve or hold a date. Be prepared to assess whether the appointment works for you and complete the official booking personally.
Make sure Tourist fits your Portugal trip
This search route is for Tourist Schengen applications. VFS describes Tourist as leisure travel where you arrange your own accommodation. If you plan to stay with family or friends in Portugal, that is a separate category. Choose the category that matches your arrangements.
Schengen applications should be made in the country where you legally reside. UK submission normally requires a valid passport or travel document and valid UK residence permission. Portugal must be the sole or main destination. For a multi-country trip, the main destination depends on the length or purpose of the stay. If neither determines the main destination, the responsible state is where you intend to cross the Schengen external border first.
A UK short-stay C visa does not give general eligibility for the Tourist route. VFS says applications from C-visa holders are limited to essential travel, subject to the mission’s assessment. Check the official visa type guidance if your plans are not straightforward leisure travel.
Get key documents ready while you wait
Review the current Tourist checklist before booking. VFS asks applicants to present original documents and submit photocopies unless an original is specifically required. The application form must be completed and signed.
Check your passport, UK residence evidence, travel arrangements and accommodation together. VFS accepts a digital UK immigration share code as residence evidence and says UK residence must remain valid for at least one month beyond the trip’s return date. Accommodation evidence should cover the whole stay and show your name, travel dates and address.
If another person is named on the accommodation booking, the checklist asks for a signed and dated joint-travel confirmation from them, together with their identification. It also requests three months of bank statements showing your name and address, with an end balance dated within the month before submission.
Plan for an in-person London appointment
The London centre lists submission hours as Monday to Friday, 08:30 to 13:00. Check VFS’s current centre information and your appointment confirmation before travelling. Allow time to reach the address and bring the documents required for your category.
VFS says Schengen applications may be submitted up to six months before intended travel. This is a planning window, not a promise that an appointment will be available. Every applicant, including children and infants, must attend in person with an online appointment.
