For Portugal tourist visa applicants who live in Hampshire, the listed VFS Portugal Visa Application Centre for this route is in London. Hampshire appears on the centre’s residence list.
Portugal Visa Alerts’ London service sends notifications when a matching appointment is detected. You make the appointment yourself through VFS.
Check the residence route first
VFS says applicants must live in a county on the relevant centre’s list to apply there. Hampshire is on the London list. Applicants in counties assigned to the Portuguese Consulate in London submit at its VFS centre in London; Manchester and Edinburgh serve a separate residence list. An appointment at another centre does not establish that you can apply there.
The residence lists are undated and use historical or overlapping place names. Confirm your current jurisdiction with VFS before booking. UK submission normally requires a valid passport or travel document and valid UK residence permission. Residence eligibility does not establish every aspect of visa eligibility.
Portugal must be the competent Schengen country for your trip. It is responsible if it is your sole destination or the main destination by length of stay or purpose. If there is no main destination, responsibility rests with the country whose external border you intend to enter first.
This page covers the tourist category, including applications for minors. UK short-stay C-visa holders should not assume they qualify for ordinary tourism: acceptance is limited to essential travel and subject to the mission’s assessment. Check VFS visa category guidance before choosing a route.
How appointment notifications work
The search starts after confirmed payment. When a matching appointment is detected, this route sends an email notification. SMS may also be available where enabled, supported and possible, but carrier delivery is not guaranteed.
An alert does not reserve or hold a date. You book personally through the official VFS appointment page. The service is optional; you can check appointments on VFS yourself.
Decide which dates you could attend in London before searching. This makes it easier to assess whether a notification is useful and act on a date that fits your plans.
Prepare your application while you search
Schengen applications may be submitted up to six months before intended travel. This is the application window, not a promise of appointment availability. Use the time to prepare your documents and attendance plan.
Confirm the visa category, then complete and sign the application form. Prepare a personal statement explaining the trip’s purpose and itinerary, if available. Your passport needs at least two blank pages, must have been issued within the last ten years and must remain valid for at least three months after departure from the Schengen area.
Gather UK residence evidence. VFS accepts a digital share code as one option and says residence permission should remain valid for at least one month beyond your return date. Check current requirements before relying on an older card format.
Travel evidence should cover your full itinerary. Accommodation evidence should show your name, dates and address for the whole stay. Provide transport evidence for the return journey and, if visiting several Schengen countries, travel between them. Insurance must cover the full stay and all Schengen countries, with at least EUR 30,000 cover for medical emergencies and repatriation.
The checklist asks for three months of bank statements showing your name and address, with an end balance dated within the month before submission. Employed applicants should prepare three months of payslips and an employer letter issued within the previous three months. Bring originals and prepare photocopies as instructed; the mission may request further documents.
Allow for the London visit
The VFS Portugal Visa Application Centre is at 66 Wilson Street, London, EC2A 2BT. Its listed submission hours are Monday to Friday, 08:30 to 13:00. Check current centre information and plan around the appointment you have booked.
Every applicant, including children and infants, must attend in person with an online appointment. A parent or guardian must accompany a minor. The centre lists wheelchair ramps and accessible lifts, and recommends bringing someone to assist if needed.
Once you have checked your residence route and prepared for attendance, choose the London notification service if matching-date alerts would help. You remain responsible for making the official booking.
