For a Portugal visa appointment from Kansas City, begin with the VFS jurisdiction assigned to your residence. The linked table lists Missouri within the Washington DC jurisdiction group, alongside Washington DC, Chicago, Houston and Miami.
The table does not assign Missouri residents to one individual centre. If dates are hard to find, our Washington DC appointment alert service can notify you when a matching appointment is detected.
Understand the Missouri listing
VFS says applicants must book at the Visa Application Centre with jurisdiction over their place of residence. The currently linked jurisdiction table includes Missouri in the Washington DC jurisdiction group. It names Washington DC, Chicago, Houston and Miami as VFS locations, but does not say which one a Missouri resident must use.
The table has no visible revision date. Check VFS’s jurisdiction information when choosing a centre rather than relying on distance from Kansas City or assuming every centre in the group is interchangeable. Applicants need a valid US residence permit, and B1/B2 short-stay visa holders are directed to apply from their country of residence.
VFS lists its Washington DC centre at 1025 Vermont Ave NW, St# 200, Washington, DC 20005, with submission hours Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 15:00. Review the centre details and confirm it is the correct location for your residence before making plans.
Check your visa category first
Tourism, including visits to family or friends, is a listed Portugal short-stay category. If you are travelling for another purpose, identify the appropriate visa type before preparing documents. A tourist checklist may not cover your circumstances.
For applications in the United States, VFS also requires a valid passport or travel document. These country-level requirements do not by themselves determine which individual centre you may use.
Prepare the short-stay application
For a category C short-stay application, prepare a completed and signed form, a recent colour photograph measuring 35 by 45 millimetres, and a passport valid for at least three months beyond your Schengen stay. Bring the original passport and photocopies of prior passports and Schengen visas where applicable. The photograph should be recent, clear and taken against a light background; follow VFS’s instructions for attaching it to the form.
For the trip, the checklist asks for a return flight reservation, accommodation evidence for the whole stay or a statement of responsibility, and travel medical insurance covering emergencies and repatriation. The stated minimum cover is €30,000 or USD 50,000. If you are staying with family, check the checklist for relationship evidence and any supporting requirements for the person providing accommodation.
The checklist also requests work and salary evidence and the last three bank statements to show means for the stay and return. Requirements can depend on your circumstances: minors may need travel authorisation or a court decision, and business applications need an invitation. Check the short-stay checklist carefully. The list is not exhaustive, so further documents may be requested. Keep copies because submitted documents other than the passport and payment receipt are not returned.
When no suitable dates appear
First check that you selected the right visa category and jurisdiction in VFS’s appointment booking system. If the dates shown do not work, check the official system again as your plans allow rather than assuming a particular date will appear.
Our search begins after confirmed payment and sends an email when it detects a matching appointment. SMS notifications are available where enabled, supported and possible, but carrier delivery is not guaranteed. A notification does not reserve or hold a date.
You book personally through VFS. If a notification arrives, review the appointment details and complete the official booking yourself if the date and centre are suitable. VFS requires in-person submission for Portugal visa applications in the United States.
Make the appointment day straightforward
Print and bring the completed application form, original passport and supporting documents for your category. Review VFS’s guidance on what to bring before travelling. At the Washington DC centre, a minor must attend with a parent or guardian. For short-stay applications there, VFS specifies payment by credit or debit card for the visa, service and additional-service fees, so check the centre’s instructions before attending.
Once you have confirmed the correct centre for your residence, start monitoring matching Portugal appointments while you complete your document file.
