For a Portugal visa appointment from Sandy Springs, Georgia appears in the Washington DC jurisdiction listing. That listing groups Washington DC, Chicago, Houston and Miami, but does not say which individual centre Georgia residents should choose.

Georgia's route and centre choice
VFS says applicants must book at the Visa Application Centre (VAC) with jurisdiction over their residence. Georgia appears in the currently linked Areas of Jurisdiction table, within the Washington DC group. The table names four VFS locations together without mapping Georgia residents to one of them. Confirm which location to select with VFS rather than assuming the nearest centre is the right one.
The table has no visible revision date, so treat it as the allocation stated in the currently linked document, not a guarantee that arrangements will never change. VFS lists the Washington DC centre at 1025 Vermont Ave NW, St# 200, Washington, DC 20005, with submission hours Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 15:00. Check the centre information before travelling.
When no suitable dates appear
Start with the official Portugal booking page, using the centre VFS confirms for your residence. The booking page is where you check dates and make an appointment. If no suitable date appears, keep your paperwork moving and check the portal again as your plans allow.
This alert route is for Portugal short-stay category C applications, including tourism. Monitoring starts after confirmed payment. We send email notifications when a matching appointment is detected; SMS notifications are available where enabled, supported and possible, though carrier delivery is not guaranteed. You book personally through VFS. A notification does not reserve or hold a date, and notification or booking speed is not guaranteed.
Prepare the short-stay application
For short-stay tourism, including visits to family or friends, use the Portugal category C checklist. It asks for a completed, signed application form, a recent colour photograph measuring 35 by 45 millimetres, and a passport valid for at least three months beyond the Schengen stay. Bring the original passport; the checklist also requests copies of previous passports and Schengen visas.
Prepare proof of US residence status, a return flight reservation and accommodation evidence for the whole stay, or a statement of responsibility. The checklist also asks for travel medical insurance covering emergencies and repatriation, with minimum coverage of EUR 30,000 or USD 50,000. Work and salary evidence and the last three bank statements help show means for the stay and return.
Some documents depend on the purpose of travel. Business applicants need an invitation from a business or company in Portugal. Medical travel requires confirmation from the medical institution and proof of funds for treatment. VFS notes that its list is not exhaustive and further documents may be requested. Keep copies of submitted papers, as documents other than the passport are not returned.
Check eligibility and payment
For applications in the United States, VFS instructions require a valid passport or travel document and a valid US residence permit. US B1/B2 short-stay visa holders are directed to apply from their country of residence. A document listed as possible residence evidence does not by itself establish eligibility to apply in the United States.
At the Washington DC centre, VFS says visa, service and additional-service fees are paid directly to VFS by credit or debit card. Confirm the payment instructions and the centre for your residence before setting out.
